Submitting content to article directories is a great way to increase your online presence. The content tends to rank well, and it earns you quality backlinks. I believe submitting content to article directories is an essential part of a well rounded internet marketing campaign. To get the most out of your articles, follow these tips below.

  • Compelling, Keyword Rich Title- Just like any other type of content, if the title doesn’t grab search users’ attention, no one will ever click on it. Your title needs to force readers to click on the article. The internet is overflowing with content. You have to stand apart from the crowd. Additionally, your title needs to be keyword rich. Since articles on these directories tend to rank well, include a relevant key phrase in your title. This will help maximize the number of eyes that see your content.
  • Great Content- This seems to be obvious enough, but the truth is most articles are quite boring. The authors are so worried about getting high search engine rankings that they forget about providing quality content. How can you expect anyone to click through to your website if the article is nothing but filler content? More importantly, the articles on this directory are a direct representation of your company. Put your best foot forward by providing unique, compelling content.
  • Keyword Rich Anchor Text- One of the great things about submitting articles to online directories is that you get to control the anchor text of your inbound links. While anchor text isn’t the most important aspect of your internet marketing campaign, it’s still significant. Use descriptive, keyword rich anchor text for the links back to your site. This can only help increase its relevancy for those terms.

I recommend using article directories on a consistent basis. Of course, you want to publish a great deal of your content on your own website, but I think at least 10% of the content you create should be set aside for these directories. This will help keep your company visible in the search engines.
